S1 Marian Redesigns - BBC Robin Hood by OtakuGirl16 S1 Marian Redesigns - BBC Robin Hood by OtakuGirl16
I recently got into the BBC's Robin Hood series and, long story short, felt the need to assuage the pain of it by giving poor Marian some better clothes. This is part of a larger project with :icontea-and-the-sea: to re-plot and partially rewrite the show.

These are amazing! I love them. Also, someone finally someone agrees that Marian's clothes sucked! Women didn't wear trousers in the 12th century, like the show portrayed her! ~OtakuGirl16

These are beautiful and so much better than the eyesores that they put her in.

Those are amazign. I really disliked the tasteless things they let her put on in the show. Not only that they were out of fashion, they were completely out of time as well. You did a great job!

I loved the first season. The second season just couldn't pull me in the same way, so I stopped watching after about the third episode. I was told to just accept the first season as awesome and ignore the second and third altogether. I am IN LOVE with your beautiful redesigns, and I'm interested in this idea of a rewrite. ^_^

Yeah, the first season was silly and campy, but overall a good romp. They definitely went off the rails later on, though. If you ever pick it up again, proceed with caution, haha. And thanks! <3

Are these a redesigns of the clothes she wore in the show or those that you would give her? I'm a big Robin Hood lover, what are your thoughts on the BBC version? Why the re-plot/rewrite? (Not that theirs anything wrong with that!!)

Oh, yeah, I should've explained haha - yes, these are direct redesigns of almost all of her S1 costumes. You can see the comparisons if you follow the link in the description.

The rewrite project is mostly just a way to give ourselves some closure over a show that we feel was a whole lot of wasted potential. Bad characterization and terrible writing were rampant (see: Guy and/or the entirety of S3). I enjoyed it and it's become very close to my heart, but I still felt that the characters and the legend itself deserved a better treatment. And Marian needed some better clothes.

Haha. Its been a while since I've seen it.

Omg I love the redesign of her pink dress! I remember that one! That yellow sweater was god-awful! Was that even the right time for that kinda clothing? I never really realized how bad her outfits were until I see them beside your. They are far better!

I'm right their with you. I feel it was a bit messed up and I'm sad that they didn't do anything close to what the real story was like. I'm not sure what was all that bad about Guy...maybe I need to re-watch the show without focusing on the boys so much XD

No, I don't think that yellow sweater would be acceptable anywhere ever, hahaha. I do understand that they were purposefully making the show anachronistic and "modern" on a very tight budget, and Marian's clothes were indicative of her being a woman way ahead of her time. I'm just imagining what they could've done if they decided to keep to historical accuracy (and had a much more substantial budget).

I'm all for departures from the original legend — I'd rather good plots and characters than a dry retelling of a thousand-year-old myth. But it was just kinda sloppy in places. Guy was often horrifically cruel (and kinda rapey), and then he would turn tail and be kinda sweet, so he was just really inconsistent, that's all. And Marian was always my favorite, so I just wanted to do something good for her with these redesigns :)

I have to admit, after looking at her clothes that she had on the show, I can see why you redesigned them :)

All I really wanted them to stick to, and I'd like to mention I haven't seen a Robin Hood show/movie that’s done it, was the fact Robin would invite people to have dinner with him and his merry men. That’s WHY they were called Robin Hoods merry men. Then he'd learn about them, and if they lied about themselves they'd pay, if not they went on their way. lol.

I kinda liked that spin on Guy. I mean Guy was always supposed to be the bad guy, I found this was just a really dark side of him. At the same time I can't help feeling that the Sheriff should have been like that instead, with him being the 'evil sheriff'...hummm

Anyways I think these redesigns are wonderful!!
